Comprehensive Eye Exams

Comprehensive eye examinations at OPT include your prescription for glasses and/or contact lenses, and a full eye health examination including eye dilation and/or Optomap ® retinal imaging. Your prescription is valid for one year from the date of your examination. If you wish to be fitted for contact lenses as well, it can be performed as an additional part of your annual visit.

What is a Comprehensive Eye Exam?

A comprehensive eye exam goes beyond determining the need for glasses or contact lenses. At OPT, we carefully look at all aspects of your eye health, which in turn, is a reflection of your overall health. As part of a routine, comprehensive exam, we will evaluate the following:

  • Glasses prescription
  • Visual acuity
  • Potential ocular side effects of systemic medications
  • Corneal curvature
  • Binocular vision assessment
  • Corneal eye health
  • UV light damage of the eye
  • Intraocular pressure measurement
  • Presence or progression of cataracts
  • Optic nerve evaluation and glaucoma risk assessment
  • Retinal eye health
  • Presence or risk of retinal holes or tears
  • Normal vs. abnormal eye floaters
